Udom’s Aide, Others Laud Eket Council Boss On Roads Interventions
The Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Research and Documentation Essien Ndueso, has commended the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Akaniyene Tommey for keying into the vision of Governor Udom Emmanuel to ensure that government impacts positively on the lives of people.
He gave this commendation during an inspection tour with the chairman, to access the quality of revamped roads in the area.
Several rural and urban roads in Eket are at various stages of execution courtesy of Governor Udom Emmanuel, with a few completed and put to use.
But some major express roads in the area had been impassable due to delays in interventions, prompting the chairman to make a huge intervention move on them.
The intervention comes with excavation of the bad soil, reclamation with new materials and stone base, as well as asphalting.
Mr. Essien Ndueso who is also an indigene of Eket recalled with nostalgia, “for a long time, I can remember as an indigene of this community we never used to traverse through this Idua Road, we used to take RCC Road and navigate through Ikot Udoma Road to get to Afia Nsit or Ofriyo and other communities in Idung Ition.
“Today the story has changed and for the people of this community, Government has reached their doorsteps, howbeit a temporary measure it means they can now access other parts of the community very freely with whatever form of vehicle they use”
We have a governor who is exerting energy to execute roads across the entire state, and I am happy in my local government, we have a chairman who is complimenting the Governor’s efforts.
The Chairman of Eket Local Government Area, Akan Tommey, restated his administration’s commitment to ensure a clean Local Government Area, disclosing that his administration has put modalities in place to this effect.
“We held a Town Hall meeting with the Village Heads, the Village Youth President and even the Village Council President, where we briefed them on our resolve to maintain a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.”
Akan Tommey, who tagged the road Maintenance project as “Operation Zero Potholes”, has been able to rehabilitate several failed portions in major parts of Eket Urban city like Idua road, Grace Bill road, Ukwa road, Etebi Street, Hospital Road, among others, to ensure a motorable and accessible road for the people of Eket to ease transportation of goods and services.
Our leader the Governor has set the template of good governance, and we have to use all resources at our disposal to serve our people effectively.
Reacting, Hon Etimbuk Edem, Councillor representing Urban 2, Eket recounted that “people faced serious challenges at Government School Road by Hospital Road, especially women who come for ante-natal, but now the road is accessible and the women are happy.”
Also speaking was the Councillor representing Urban 3, and leader of council, Samuel Ekpo, who lamented about the former state of Grace Bill Road and commended the Council Boss for his good works.
The staekeholder in Etebi Idung Akpaisang, Idongesit Uso, commended the Chairman of Eket Local Government Area for being a good man and having a good vision.
At Grace Bill Road opposite Grafen Company, Esther Atang, a business owner narrated the ordeal business owners in the community had faced before the intervention of the Chairman and thanked the Council Boss for putting an end to the bad experiences.
“People coming from Ibeno used to divert and take Afaha Uqua road or Marina Road, instead of passing through Grace Bill, and I lost so many customers in the process”, she lamented.
Also speaking, Mrs Ada Emmanuel, whose shop is situated along Hospital Road by Immanuel General Hospital thanked the Eket helmsman for rehabilitation of the extremely bad condition of that portion which used to slow down vehicles but appealed for the provision of speed bumps, to curb the recklessness of some drivers along the now smooth road.
Hon Akaniyene Tommey, a former councilor, says his Operation Zero Pothole programme and the keep Eket clean operations are some of the ways he is keying into the Governor’s vision of a clean and green state.
