Foundation Gives Free JAMB Forms to 150 A’Ibom Students
…Promises Scholarship to Masters level for 10 Best Candidates
A non-governmental organization, Life Foundation has distributed 150 Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms to the less privileged students in Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency.
The Foundation has also offered free registration to the 150 beneficiaries of the educational aid programme.
The flag-off of the programme which took place Tuesday at Loam Polytechnic, Ikono witnessed 50 students selected from each local government area of Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim and Obot Akara which make up the Federal Constituency to benefit from the programme.
In his remark at the flag-off, the Director General of the Foundation, Prince Mendy Archibong said the programme was designed for the students who could not afford the form but were desirous to further their formal education to higher institution.
He noted that among the 150 candidates, the best 10 will be selected for scholarship grant up to Masters degree level in the higher institution.
Archibong said the programme is a futuristic project geared towards raising leaders who will in turn develop the community.
While noting that the programme is modeled after Obafemi Awolowo’s educational policy which helped in transforming the western part of the country, he added ” We must rise and take our position in this country. The starting point to that is massive investments in education. I applaud the State Government for its effort in the educational sector. However, we can’t allow it totally in the hands of government. The exposure that education at higher institution offers set one on the pedestal to compete favourably with his contemporaries anywhere.”
” This is the generation that would take Akwa Ibom State to the next level. These are the great sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State that will push Akwa Ibom State to the zenith”.
“By the grace of God, what we are doing today will continue every year. We want to see that Akwa Ibom State becomes an educated State like other States in the West.”
Archibong who wished the candidates well charged them to be focused, hard-working and prayerful in preparation for the JAMB examination.
In their respective response, Promise Etido from Obot Akara, Victoria Ekpemagha from Essien Udim and Edaramfon Odiong from Ikot Ekpene thanked the Foundation for the gesture. They said Prince Archibong Life Foundation has given them hope that higher education is possible despite their challenges hence they are poised on maximizing the opportunity.
Speaking on behalf of Parents, Elder Samuel Udoh said parents have been relieved as most of them were worried on how to get N6,500 for JAMB form.
He stated “This act of kindness has relieved us greatly. When we were told by our children that JAMB form is 6,500, we were disturbed on how to get such amount of money without other responsibilities suffering. Last year, some of our children remained at home because we couldn’t afford it. But you have come to not only buy the form but take care of their registration.”
” Going further to offer scholarship to 10 Best candidates shows that you really love your people and we pray for God to bless you abundantly. We assure you that our children will be successful in their examination so that the seed you have sown will sprout and you will be proud in the near future about what you have done today”.
