Iniubong Umoren’s Death: GPS Error Responsible for our mention in Investigative Report- CCCRN
The Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research has said that there is a strong likelihood that an error of data by Global Positioning System (GPS) must have been the reason behind their mention in the investigative report carried out by David Hundeyin.
David Hundeyin a Journalist had put out a report on who may be behind the murder of the 26-years old graduate of philosophy, Iniubong Umoren. The report had linked CCCRN as the location where suspects in the murder of Iniubong Umoren met.
But in a press conference held on Wednesday by CCCRN, the organization noted that the report by the Journalist linking the organization to the suspects is unfounded.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of CCCRN, Ayodotun Olutola, there is a strong possibility that the GPS the Journalist must have used in his investigation mixed up the address.
He said ” Probably, it is a mix-up of GPS mapping of address in Ewet Housing. In Ewet Housing here, we have 58 G Unit and 58 G Line. Those are minor errors we think may have happened. There are instances people use GPS to locate our office but it takes them to other locations. There may have been some mix-up in the GPS assigning where the phone call came from.”
While noting that persons mentioned in the report are not staff of CCCRN, Olutola said they have further run a forensic audit on their Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and have discovered that they do not have anything or anyone that they cannot account for in their CCTV footages and visitors’ register.
He insisted that CCCRN does not have records of those mentioned in the report as persons who visited their office.
Olutola pointed out that since 2010, the Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research has provided health and social services to millions of Nigerians in over nine states.
He explained that in Akwa lbom state, CCCRN provides health, protection, education, nutrition and household
economic strengthening services among others to more than 100,000 orphans and vulnerable children and their households, working with the Government of Akwa lbom state and nine (9) reputable Community Based Organizations.
The CEO stated that they do not consult for any organization rather they rely on funding from World Bank, Centre for Disease Control, United States Agency For International Development (USAID) grant among other reputable international Donor Agencies.
He added ” CCCRN has a functional website www.cccr-nigeria.org containing its track records, physical addresses, email addresses and contact persons for its seven offices in Nigeria. We also have an email to which the reporter could have sent an enquiry email info@cccr-nigeria.org. It is obvious that the “investigative reporter” conveniently ignored these opportunities to validate who we are and mischievously labelled a charitable organization with over 250 professional staff a “Ghost NGO”.
“The reporter further speculated or alleged that our Uyo Office “may have been commandeered by an illegal organ
trafficking ring to feed the booming global black market organ trade. Such speculation is untrue, wicked and
unfounded. Through these careless statements, Mr Hundeyi has caused us immeasurable pain and embarrassment.
irrespective of what drives him, he has done great a disservice to all our hardworking team members and partners in Nigeria and beyond.”
“We therefore urge all members of the public to note that the Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research (CCCRN) is
a responsible non-profit organization and has absolutely nothing to do with Mr. Effiong, organ trafficking, harvesting
or the death of Iniubong Umoren, either directly or indirectly.”
Meanwhile, the organization had shown reporters around the premises. However, CCCRN did not grant reporters access to visitors’ register of the day in question. The CEO of the organization said the reason for declining access is to preserve the document against compromise in case it is needed for evidence.
