Attempt To Nullify Akwa Ibom APC Ward Congresses Fails As Udoedehe, Udosen Remain Incharge
Efforts by some aggrieved faction of the Akwa Ibom APC to upturn the recently held ward congress of the party in the state may have failed, as the national leadership of the party appears to have ignored the various calls to upturn the congresses.
An Appeal Committee from Abuja to the state to interface with aggrieved stakeholders, means that only pockets of complaints would be entertained rather than outright cancellation of the process.
This newspaper gathers that the idea of appeal panel may not have gone down well with some party stakeholders, notably Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Senator Ita Enang, whose alleged supporters were calling for outright cancellation of the congress.
The camp of the APC opposed to Udoedehe’s leadership of the party in the state had last week gone to town jubilating that President Buhari was set to dissolve the Caretaker Committee of the party and nullify the outcome of the ward Congress, but to their disappointment that never happened.
Rather the President who is the leader of the party at the National approved the constitution of APC Ward Congress Appeal Committee for the state.
Some party stakeholders were not comfortable with the insistence by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Udoedehe and the Ita Udosen led State Exco that the congress must go ahead.
Some party supporters loyal to the Minister of Nigeria-Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger-Delta, Senator Ita Enang and Group Capt. Sam Ewang had protested at the party Secretariat on the day of the congress, calling for the sack of the National Secretary of the party, Senator Udoedehe and Ita Udosen led State exco.
Meanwhile, the 5 member panel which had since arrived the state is billed to commence sitting today, Friday at the State Secretariat of the party at 149 Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo from 9:am and would round off by 5:Pm. It is learnt that Panel offers among others, a remedy, negotiation and reconciliation among aggrieved stakeholders and party members.
A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Nkereuwem Enyongekere has directed those with genuine complaints arising from the July 31, 2021 ward congress to take advantage of the appeal panel and file their grievances before the Committee from Thursday, August 12 for immediate and proper mediation.
