UK Varsity suspends Ekweremadu’s Appointment as visiting professor (2)

The Lincoln University has announced the suspension of its appointment of a former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Ike Ekweremadu, as a visiting professor.

The university made the announcement following Ekweremadu’s arrest for human trafficking for organ harvesting in the UK.

Lincoln recently announced the appointment of Ekweremadu as a visiting professor of Corporate and International Linkages.

The institution declared that wouldn’t make further comments on the matter pending when the  UK police would conclude its investigation on Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

“Visiting professors are often, as is in this case, non-resident at the university, unpaid and advisory,” a spokesman for the University said.

 “We are deeply concerned about the nature of these allegations, but as this is an active police investigation, we cannot comment further at this stage.

 “Whilst this matter is subject to investigation, this person will not be undertaking any duties as visiting professor at Lincoln.”

The UK Metropolitan Police on Tuesday arrested Ewkeremadu with his wife Beatrice for alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a minor.

They were arraigned at the Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London,  where the prosecutor told the Court that the minor was a 15-year-old boy named Ukpo Nwamini David.

They were reported to have facilitated David’s entry into the UK to donate his kidney to their daughter who is said to be suffering from kidney failure.

According to the prosecutor, David said he was not aware that he was taken to the UK to donate a kidney until he went for a hospital appointment with the couple.
