Zombies in the Bible ? Dry Bones shall live again – Dead “Christians” Walking !

Ezekiel 37:1-10He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.

People like to joke about Lazarus and Jesus being zombies, but they’ve got it all wrong.

Zombies are dead people that are reanimated. They are still dead, but moving. They are incapable of thought.

Vampires are the Undead. They are truly dead, but they are like a living being. They don’t decay, are capable of thought and independent movement

Now Jesus and Lazarus weren’t reanimated. They were fully resurrected. They are alive, not Undead. Their bodies and brains are fully alive.

But no zombies or vampires are in the Bible.

The Bible says the dead came out of their graves and walked around when he arose from the grave. Were they zombies and what happened to them?

Are those Zombies in Matthew 27:53?
“They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection”

There are four Gospel accounts, but only Matthew mentions dead people emerging from their tombs alongside the Resurrected Christ.

Zombies in the Bible? In the Gospel? Let’s put that idea into context.

Matthew 27:51–54 says:

At that moment [of Jesus’ death] the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open.

The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” (NIV; emphasis added)

In the middle of narrating Jesus’ death on the cross, Matthew inserts this reference to other people coming out of their graves after Jesus did so.

Is this a historical event? A poetic, symbolic device? And if it’s the latter, then why should we believe in Jesus’ resurrection?

Because inerrancy doesn’t work, and a mature faith can view various scriptures differently due to their contexts.

Is Matthew 27:53 a literal, historical event (about zombies)?
If we adopt a “plain reading” of the text, then Matthew states, unequivocally, that Jesus wasn’t the only dead person to rise from the grave on Easter.

But that’s almost all Matthew says. He adds that these resurrected people went into the holy city, Jerusalem, and appeared to others, presumably their loved ones and other followers of Jesus.

Matthew doesn’t name any of the resurrected. He doesn’t number them. He doesn’t say who saw them. He doesn’t describe their bodies, actions, or behaviors, or provide any other helpful details. He’s also the only Gospel writer to mention this…

Does hell in the Bible truly mean the grave?

It refers to the realm of the unsaved dead. It’s where people who rejected God’s offer of salvation through faith in Christ go while they’re awaiting God’s judgment (John 3:15–18). It does seem to include conscious torment.

“…The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’” (Luke 16:22–24, NKJV)

However, the ultimate destination of those who reject God’s offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, is the Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:14).

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11–15, NKJV)

The good news by which you can escape the torments of hell and the Lake of Fire, is that Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1–4). This shows we’re sinners who deserve death. It also shows Christ’s death satisfied God’s righteous demands against our sin (Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:1–2). God can now remain just, while forgiving and saving us from eternal damnation, when we rely on Christ’s atonement to make us right with God.

Has anyone found a grave of people from the Bible?
Yes. Herod’s tomb was just found. He built a whole mountain & his tomb was just found in the side of it. Caiphas the High Priest’s bone box or ossuary was discovered. These 2 are the only verified burials found. The missing rolling stone that sealed the “Garden Tomb” next to Gethsemane & Golgotha that some point to as being Joseph of Arimethia’s that was used for Jesus has just been found. There is no proof tying it to any person but it is from that time period & the only place meeting the requirements of the text. There was an early church built around it that was later destroyed. There is a traditional place of burial for Abraham that has a cenotaph or stone coffin for him & his wife, & another tomb for Daniel, both of which the Muslim’s revere & have built mosques around. These have not been corroborated by archaeologists though. The ossuary of James, Jesus’ brother & first head of the church, is considered by some to be real, others to be a real ossuary from that time but his name added later . We have the mummies & tombs of the Pharoah’s from Moses’ time but don’t know which one was the Pharoah referred to. There are 2 excellent documentaries you would be integer rated in; 1. Revealing God’s Treasure on YouTube that details the evidence for the Hebrews in Egypt, the real crossing site & Mt Sinai along with Dodom & Gomorrah & the 2 Arks. Look for the “full movie” since most uploads are broken up into sections. These show the sites Ron Wyatt found. He took his family & and other groups to these sites over the years. 2. Patterns of Evidence that goes through the traditional Eguptian timeline, showing its flaws & comes up with a new timeline. It’s free on Netflix (didn’t see if it was free on YouTube. There are good videos on Simon Brown’s & Ark Discovery’s YouTube channels & also the Answers in Genesis website. The real Mt Sinai was corroborated separately by by a Japanese Dr to a Saudi Prince & a family who’s dad worked in oil. Their stories & videos are also available on YouTube. Leonart Moller of the famous Carolinus Institute that gives out the Nobel Prizes also researched Ron Wyatt’s sites & confirmed them detailing his research in a book that was just updated last year.

The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.
He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.
He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!
This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.
I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.
I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them, and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’”
So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
