A 2010 tweet shared by Wizkid, the singer, seeking the attention of MI Abaga, the rapper, has resurfaced and gone viral on social media.

Wizkid has been in the news over his scathing criticism of rap music which he dismissed as “boring” and “dead”.

In an interview, Wizkid stated that he doesn’t listen to rap, suggesting rappers have failed to adapt to change.

“Afrobeats is the new pop. I sold two million copies in America off of one song! Even some American artists don’t have a diamond record. If I’m being honest, I don’t listen to any other genre of music anymore,” he said.

“I don’t listen to rap. That sh*t is boring to me. It’s dead now, it’s tired. These guys do the same sh*t, rap on the same beats and the same flows.”

In a Twitter post, MI Abaga appeared to have countered Wizkid, saying rap is “still on the rise”.

The rapper also gave a shout-out to his colleagues who he said are “winning”.

As social media discourse around the subject continued, Wizkid’s tweet from nearly 13 years ago surfaced online.

In the tweet, Wizkid could be seen trying to call the attention of the rapper to his craft while saying he’s a big fan.

“Hello, sir. My name is Wizkid and I’m an upcoming artiste. I’ve met you before but not sure you remember me. I’m a big fan,” the post reads in part.

It remains unclear what Wizkid was up to with the tweet.

The tweet came about two years after MI featured Wizkid in ‘Fast Money, Fast Cars’, the rapper’s 2008 hit track.
