IMO 2023: Athan Achonu emerges Labour Party Governorship Candidate.

Former Senator, Athan Achonu on Saturday emerged flagbearer of the Labour Party in the Imo Governorship race. Former senator Athan Achonu secures Labour Party governorship ticket in Imo state. Achonu emerged victorious at the primary election held in Owerri, Imo state capital on Saturday. The returning officer, Calistus Ihejiagwa, announced that Achonu clinched 134 votes, defeating his closest rival, retired major general Jack Ogunewe, who scored 121 votes.

Achonu previously represented Imo North in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was sacked by the appeal court in December 2015. The LP candidate will be up against the incumbent, Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP in the November 11 Imo governorship election.
