The Governor-Elect of Imo State and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded governorship poll, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, has accepted the Saturday’s electoral victory where he was declared winner and Governor-Elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an historic landslide victory.
The INEC on Sunday declared the APC winner of the November 11, 2023 guber poll in the state for winning 27 out of the 27 councils, a feat which has never been recorded before in the history of the state.
While accepting the landslide victory, the Imo state Governor-Elect on Monday in government house Owerri attributed the victory God as he noted that the first thing he did while learning of his announcement was to go to the chapel to worship God in thanksgiving, he said the victory is also a confirmation that Imo people and the stakeholders’ multiple endorsements before the election is true.
“I accept the great honour and privilege to serve as your governor for another four years. The historical victory is a clear confirmation of the various stakeholders endorsement for my performance in office.
“It is now my turn to keep my own side of the bargain.
“Your message to me is that you appreciate my work in office” said the governor.
Continuing, the APC governorship candidate extended hands of fellowship to his opponents who lost the election.
While congratulating and commiserating with them, he said the opposition candidates should not see their Saturday’s electoral defeat as a loss rather they should see it as a win for Imo people.
“In a democratic contest such as this one of last Saturday, only one person will emerge victorious; since it has pleased God and Imo people to confer such honor and privilege on me: I congratulate and commiserate with my brothers who contested with me, they did not lose but Imo people won. This is a collective victory for the good people of our state.
“I therefore call on all of them to join hands with me to continue to build the Imo of our collective dream.
“I will not discriminate. I will want to work with all of them, both those who contested election who did not make it through this medium to come up with their good ideas, join hands with me so that we can serve our people” said the newly elected governor.
He expressed profound gratitude to Imo People for re-electing him while re-assuring them that it is his own turn to keep his side of the bargain.
“Let me express my profound gratitude to you – Imo people who made this historic victory possible. It is now my own turn to keep my own side of the bargain” he re’assured Imo people.
The Governor also expressed gratitude to Imo council of elders as he praised them for standing well for him as he remarked that their intervention with the Imo charter of equity made lot of difference in the election and attributed it as part of the reason for the widespread victory he recorded.
“Your efforts on the Imo charter of equity paid off.”
Governor Uzodimma took time to commend the security agencies involved in the election for maintaining peace and order during and after the election making it possible for the election to record violence free exercise.
The Governor also took special time to praise the resilience and professionalism of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deployed for the election as he noted that the electoral umpire did not allow itself to be bullied or intimidated by the opposition from doing their constitutional duties.
