How Angry youths disrupted Children’s Day celebration in Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom
This year’s Children’s Day celebration in Mkpat Enin local government area, Akwa Ibom State did not go as planned, with angry youths storming the venue of the event on Thursday, leaving hundreds of children visibly frightened and disappointed.
It is unclear why the event was staged at QIC Primary School Grounds, Mkpat Enin – instead of the stadium.
But an eyewitness who didn’t want her name mentioned told our correspondent the irate youths disrupted the event citing the alleged refusal of the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Hon. (Prince) Anieokpon Eno Ekpo to employ the services of people who would mow the lawn that has grown wild.
Photos shared on social media appear to show the stadium covered with tall green grasses.
Yesterday, the Chairman, through his Chief Press Secretary Samuel Udoma, had invited “his wife, Vivian, the Vice-Chairman, Hon.(Lady) Mercy Bassey, Leader of the Legislature, Hon. Ebong Akpan and all the Councilors, the Secretary of Council, Princess Eno Sunday Ekanem, the Head of Local Government Service, Akparawa Offiong Otu, Directors and other principal officers of the Council, the political class, the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) family, the Paramount Ruler and members of the Traditional Rulers Council, Chairmen and members of Statutory Committees, senior citizens, teachers and school administrators, women, youths, students and indeed, all indigenes of the area to the 2021 Children’s Day Celebration as follows: Marking of the day/March past by School Children. Date: Tomorrow, 27th May 2021. Venue: QIC Primary School Grounds, Mkpat Enin. Time: 10am. Come, let’s celebrate the heritage of our future generation.”
